This just goes to show the sad and pathetic state of modern science fiction and fantasy books when the nonfiction “Distrust that Particular flavor” , by William Gibson was listed as one of the best science fiction and fantasy novels of the year. William Gibson may indeed be one of the best science fiction writers of all time, but Distrust that Particular flavor was not science fiction. It is a collection of William Gibson’s essays and articles that he’s written over the year on various subjects. It’s very good book I highly recommend, it’s just that it’s nonfiction. Not sci-fi, and not fantasy.
couldn’t agree more
Kind of an odd criticism. There was no claim that it’s a novel. “Best science fiction and fantasy books of 2012″ You changed it to “Novels,” probably unconsciously.
You’re right, it’t doesn’t say “novels”, it actually says “Best science fiction and fantasy books of 2012″. Books, not novels. My mistake.
I still think it’s weird that Distrust that Particular flavor is on the list. It’s not Sci-Fi or Fantasy.
It’s an understandable mistake. But I gather that the book is mostly about aspects of SF, and that’s what Gibson is known for. I think that books *about* science fiction are a legitimate inclusion.
